Haiti Fundraiser to Help Earthquake Victims

Haitian boy at St. Damien Hospital.

Children at their makeshift home.

The outpouring of love and concern for the people of Haiti has been such a blessing following the earthquake that toppled one of the NPH buildings in Port-au-Prince. One Friends of the Orphans volunteer was killed in the earthquake, another is recovering in a Miami hospital, and her brother who was visiting at the time of the quake was also killed. Countless staff in Haiti are still missing, having either perished in the quake or are still tending to their disrupted lives.

Yet, there is much for which to be thankful. The new hospital, St. Damien, sustained little damage. Surgical teams from Italy and the U.S. are assisting the NPH hospital staff. Programs to deliver water, bury the dead, care for the 300+ children in the orphanage and tend to the injured and sick in outreach clinics continue. A new daycare program brings children from the tent cities to an area where they play and eat nutritious meals. It seems our work there will go on.

Rock n Raise Haiti . . . a fundraiser

Supporters are rallying to help and have created a fundraiser, Rock n Raise Haiti, to be held this Saturday, February 6, at the Compound Grill, 68th Street and Mayo Blvd. in north Phoenix. A suggested donation of $20 gets you in the door, plus one drink ticket. There will be a few handouts to those attending . . . and lots of music! The fun begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Bands will play all day until 2 a.m. on Sunday. Food will be available for purchase.

So join us and help our teams in Haiti who so desperately need us now!
